Del Valle Park Gate Assistance

  • Noe Castanon (M)

This assignment is located at the park gate at Del Valle.  You will assist the ranger at the kisok in processing queue of cars entering the park.  This is necessary because a large number of boats enter the park at the same time the runners arrive.  Because the rangers must inspect each boat entering, this bogs down line for runners.  Volunteers with this duty will work under the ranger’s direction to keep things moving smoothly.

Volunteers should be on site around 6:30to set up.  The early starters will need to be checked in for their prompt 7:00am start.

Main responsibilities will be to check in runners and supervise the early start.  TBD will arrive at 6:30 with Start Line supplies as well as supplies for the Laurel Loop aid station.

You will have alphabetical checklists for the runners and you will hand out bib numbers to runners when they check in.

You will also send off  the early start runners at 7:00am (according to your watch).  As you check them in. please use the marker to write a large “+1” (indicating that they started one hour early) on their bib number.  Their starting time will be based on your watch.  We will start the official race at 8:00am based off of your watch as well, that way we will guarantee that the early folks started exactly one hour earlier.

Steve is actually running the race.  He will be on site at 6:30 to help with check in, and will conclude his shift around 7:45.

Pat is also volunteering at the finish line and will catch a ride there with either Mark or Helmut.

You will start approximately 15 minutes after the race begins and follow behind, removing course markings and obliterating the flour arrows as you go.  If you happen to see litter left behind by a runner, please pick it up.

The aid stations will remain open until you pass through.  Do not get ahead of the runners, we need to know that there are no more runners behind you when you pass through an aid station.
